J.TEST is also recognized internationally
The most well-known Japanese language proficiency test, the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), is only held twice a year. However, the J.TEST is conducted six times a year, in odd-numbered months. Furthermore, the test venues are conveniently located in Makati or BGC (Note: the venue may change for each session).
Here, we will focus on the F-G level (beginner level, equivalent to N5). In Japan, the F-G level test is only held twice a year, in May and November. However, in the Philippines, it is available six times a year, providing more opportunities for examinees to take the exam.
J.TEST is recommended for those who excel in listening
Compared to the JLPT, the J.TEST places a greater emphasis on listening skills in its scoring system. Therefore, those who may struggle with kanji, grammar, or reading comprehension still have a good chance to achieve a high score.
Study Materials and Exam Benefits
Past exam question books for the J.TEST (₱1,000) can be purchased at the J.TEST Philippines Office, so be sure to take advantage of this resource.
Additionally, a certificate of proficiency is issued for the J.TEST. The passing criteria for the F-G level (beginner level, equivalent to N5) are as follows:
- Out of a total score of 350 points, examinees who achieve 180 points or higher will receive an F-G level certification.
- However, there is a condition: none of the eight sections should have a score of zero.
J.TEST is an excellent option for those who want to leverage their listening skills or take a different type of exam from the JLPT to assess their Japanese proficiency. We encourage you to take on the challenge!
